Building ventilation systems remain our particular focus at UBC

With updated guidance from the BCCDC on building ventilation and COVID-19, the performance of our building ventilation systems remains our particular focus. To ensure our systems are in the best possible operating condition, a Heating and Ventilation Systems (HVAC) working group is evaluating and recommending any further technical measures that will ensure a high safety standard and reduce transmission risks.

Adjustments to pH and alkalinity of regions drinking water in June 2021

Metro Vancouver has notified UBC Vancouver that they are planning to increase the pH and alkalinity of the region’s drinking water through the use of natural minerals in early June 2021. This increase in pH and alkalinity is an important step in a long-term program to reduce pipe corrosion from naturally occurring elements in drinking water.

Core and customer-funded dispensers for buildings and spaces

The number of core soap, paper towel, and hand sanitizer dispensers for each building and space follow UBC technical guidelines. For any additional dispensers, these dispensers are not consider ‘Core’ dispensers and the faculty/department is responsible for funding the additional dispenser and ongoing refills.
