Sean McGregor joins Mechanical Trades as People & Process Manager in Building Operations

Sean joins the mechanical team with strong customer service experience from his current role as Blue Zone Facilities Manager in Customer Services & Informatics. He has a trades background as an electrician, and has a solid understanding of UBC’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and related controls. Sean’s first day in this role will be Monday, January 17, 2022.

A reminder to stick to primary routes when driving to campus

When extreme weather comes to UBC Vancouver, Municipal Services in Building Operations is responsible for managing snow and ice within the Vancouver campus. Our snow removal and deicing vehicles work in priority zones to ensure the highest risk areas of campus are open first.

Curtis Spencer is promoted to Subhead Electrical Maintenance in Building Operations

Curtis joined UBC in February 2017 working on campus street lights before moving to the electrical controls crew where he took on both the green and teal zones. Curtis has vast experience in commercial and industrial settings, and has shown great leadership in how he deals with difficult conversations and complex situations.

Raymond Lum promoted to Subhead Metal Worker in Building Operations

Raymond has been in the metal shop at UBC for seven years and has a wealth of knowledge and experience in layout, fabricating, assembling, welding and installation. He was a participant in the Expression of Interest (EOI) program and is an advocate for safety by serving as a member of the Trades Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC).

New functionality live in Planon

Planon Release 3.2 is live effective November 1, 2021, introducing further new functionality within the Resource Planner and Service Requests. Planon is UBC’s Enterprise Maintenance Management System (EMMS). A cloud-based solution that supports UBC’s strategic goals, in the delivery of property, grounds and energy and water service; maintenance, inventory and asset management.

Anthony Boyce promoted to Head Metal Worker in Building Operations

Tony joined UBC in 2017, and progressed his way through the Metal Shop in Trades within Building Operations, and most recently as the Sub-Head for the past 18 months. He has over 35 years experience in the sheet metal industry with extensive knowledge in metal layout, fabrication, welding, assembly, and installation.
