Building Operations Weekly

ALL STAFF MUST FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES WITHIN THE USB AND HEADER HOUSE SAFETY PLANS AS WELL AS ALL CAMPUS BUILDINGS

A reminder that all staff are to follow directives outlined within our USB and Header House safety plans, including new operational procedures put in place throughout each building.  Methods and practices outlined in the safety plans are in accordance with guidelines set by BCCDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Your self-compliance with the guidelines set out in the safety plan is of the utmost importance.

The safety plans include a review of USB and Header House operational activities and directives to ensure effective controls are in place to prevent the infection from COVID-19. These activities include, but are not limited to;

  • cleaning and hygiene
  • following directional arrows/traffic flow
  • maintaining physical distancing in buildings and vehicles
  • adhering to entrance/exit signage
  • compliance with maximum occupancy limits for meeting rooms, office spaces, kitchens and washrooms.

Non-compliance with our safety plan and any other relevant COVID-19 related policies or updated building procedures may result in loss of access to a particular space and could lead to discipline.

If you have not already done so, please review the safety plan for your building on the Staff tab of the Building Operations website https://buildingoperations.ubc.ca/staff/

*Important: Please ensure that you are following all of the COVID-19 protocols put in place throughout all buildings on campus.  Occupancy in some spaces is quite limited and It is extremely important that maximum occupancy limits are adhered to when entering spaces to complete work. When entering a building or a space to complete work, it is very important that you:

  • Look for posted maximum occupancy signage so you are aware of the space restrictions
  • Open the door and check the space for occupants before entering
  • If there are people in the space, ask if it is safe to enter and complete your work at this time
  • If it is not safe to complete your work, arrange a time that works for both the building occupants and yourself to return to the space and safely complete your work

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED WITH THE POWER OUTAGES THIS WEEKEND

This weekend, multiple buildings on campus lost power due to an unknown cause. The outages led to many crews being called upon and dispatched to get all of the buildings without power back on-line.

We want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the great team work and support between Building Operations and Energy and Water. Thank you to all of our teams who; maintained all of our standby gensets prior to and during the outage, monitored building systems via our BMS, visited every building affected by the outage to ensure systems were running after power was restored, addressed the three feeders and building services and to the FMs for communicating with our clients during this outage. An additional thank you to EWS leadership for maintaining consistent communication and updates throughout the outage, your support was greatly appreciated.

The work competed this weekend was a proud moment for the Facilities Group, and we sincerely thank you for your continued dedication to the university and the Facilities team.

LBS FILESERVER DECOMMISSIONING EFFORT IS COMPLETE!

After today, June 30th, the LBS Fileserver will be permanently decommissioned, marking the end to over 20 years of service to the Facilities Group.

Getting to this point was a joint effort; staff members representing Building Operations, Energy & Water, as well as Infrastructure Development worked alongside UBC IT Desktop Services teams to help users from each department eliminate use of the old fileserver.

After several weeks of helping users transfer files to the Shared Drives personal H-Drives and email/phone check-ins with still-active users, almost 900 users across UBC can now leave the LBS fileserver behind.

Special thanks go to the Shared Drive technicians in each department, the UBC IT Desktop Services team, and all the LBS fileserver users for making this happen!

UBC THRIVE IS COMING — ADD YOUR VOICE
