STAFF ENGAGEMENT PLAN

Signing up for Canvas

Canvas is UBC’s Learning Management System. This is a new platform which holds all of UBC’s mandatory and elective courses. When you complete training on Canvas, it is tracked for you.

Canvas will be integrated with Workday so that all your UBC training, including safety training, is tracked in one place. You will be able to check yourself to ensure that all your training is up to date.

All UBC staff members must log into Canvas at least once so that training administrators can add you to courses in future.

Go to https://login.cpe.ubc.ca/ and Login with your CWL and password (full instructions included in the how to guide provided by your Head/Manager)

BUILDING OPERATIONS ACHIEVES THIRD E3 PLATINUM FLEET RATING FOR 2020

Building Operations has once again achieved our E3 Platinum Level Rating for 2020! E3 Fleet recognizes UBC’s high standard in green performance and management across Canada, with a UBC rating of 97/100!

The Building Operations department at the University of British Columbia (UBC) has been awarded its third Platinum rating from E3 Fleet in 2020. UBC Building Operations operates over 240 vehicles and specialty motorized equipment in carrying out facilities maintenance, operations, and renovation services for the lands and buildings owned by the University of British Columbia. Since being awarded its first platinum rating in 2014, UBC Building Operations has cut greenhouse gas emissions in the fleet by 110 tonnes, representing a 47% reduction from 2007 levels.

Congratulations to Fleet & Procurement, Business Analyst teams, and everyone who participated to achieve our 2020 E3 Fleet Rating.

E3 stands for Energy, Environment and Excellence. The E3 Fleet program recognizes public and private sectors for their contribution in green standards.  The rating is based on several factors – fleet’s action plan, training and awareness, idling reduction, vehicle purchasing, fuel data management, operations and maintenance, trip and route planning, utilization management, fuel efficiency, and greenhouse gas performance.  More information can be found on the E3 Fleet website https://www.e3fleet.com/about.html)

WEEKLY TIP: FOOTWEAR AND EARTHQUAKES

Footwear and earthquakes

Even in a pandemic situation, the risk of an earthquake hitting British Columbia remains the same.

This week’s tip is about making sure you keep a pair of shoes by your bed at all times in case of a nighttime earthquake. Removing broken glass from people’s feet was one of the most common injuries emergency departments had to deal with during the 6.7 Northridge earthquake that hit Southern California in the early morning hours of January 17th 1994.
