JOIN THE PLANON DEMONSTRATION ON CAMPUS ON JULY 24TH & 25TH FROM 12:00-12:45 PM IN the BC HYDRO ROOM IN CIRS

This week, Planon is providing two demonstrations to heads, subheads, coordinators, and managers on July 24th and 25th from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM in the BC Hydro Room in CIRS.

These sessions are intended to provide a brief overview of EMMS and to give a “look under the hood” of Planon. The demos will:

·    Showcase the look and feel of Planon’s interface, navigation, notifications and drill down options to information, and

·    View Planon’s out-of-the-box functionality which will be configured for UBC over the next year to meet business needs.

These demos are required sessions for invited staff. If you are on campus and have been invited, please ensure you attend.

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH UBC’S GARDENERS

By Jessica Werb

Every year, UBC’s campus erupts in bloom, from delicate cherry blossoms and magnificent magnolias to brightly coloured alliums and richly scented lilacs.

It’s not just the work of Mother Nature that’s responsible for bringing the university landscape to life. A dedicated staff of 35 gardeners, arborists and horticulturists, divided into five crews, work year-round to maintain the university’s 172 hectares of varied landscapes. It’s a responsibility that requires detailed preparation, intense physical work, and the ability to adapt and plan for the changing seasons and climate.

“We work year-round,” says Grazyna Rougeau, sub-head for the north end of campus, whose responsibilities include tending to the Rose Garden, Museum of Anthropology gardens, the flag pole and Mackenzie House, the president’s residence. “During the growing season, we’re doing all aspects of looking after the lawns, the beds and the trees. And in winter, our priority is snow clearing, but we’re also pruning trees and renovating garden beds to improve the landscape for the next year. We never stop.”

BUILDINGOPS ENHANCED FMS LIVE

Building Operations users may notice some changes to PeopleSoft today, as UBC IT updated the backend of FMS Live overnight last July 21, 2019.

The upgrade was performed to keep PeopleSoft up to date and secure behind the scenes while keeping the main functions of FMS Live the same, such as our Service Requests, Work Orders, Shutdowns, Inventory, eProcurement, Payroll and other functions. With the upgrade came enhancements to the look and feel of the system.

Building Operations users should not expect significant any changes. If you encounter any problems, feel free to contact the Service Centre for troubleshooting.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS – DRIVING DURING AN EARTHQUAKE

What do you do if you are driving during an earthquake?

TIP: Slowly bring your car to a stop in an open and safe area away from bridges, power lines, trees and buildings. Turn off your engine and wait inside until the shaking stops. Remain inside if a power line falls on your vehicle until emergency personnel can get you out safely.
