PREVENT WORKPLACE INJURIES WITH GOOD PLANNING AND HAZARD ASSESSMENTS…KNOW THE SAFETY POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Let’s make an extra effort to prevent workplace injuries by knowing policies and procedures.

Health and safety policies and procedures (P&P) are an element of our Health and Safety Program and are developed as required by legislation to address particular issues or hazards. They are administrative measures to control workplace hazards and should be used together with other hazard control measures to eliminate or reduce the risk of workplace illness or injury.

Commonly accessed health and safety P&Ps can be found at the Building Operations website (https://buildingoperations.ubc.ca/resources/policies-procedures-forms/). A full list of health and safety P&Ps can be found at the Building Operations Shared Drive under the Policies and Procedures folder.

For those who do not have computer access, be sure to ask your supervisor or manager for assistance.

WE MAKE SPACES WORK, NO MATTER THE WEATHER–SOFT LANDSCAPE CREWS INSPIRES CUSTOMERS

Our dedication to service excellence is evident when a client sends us a message of gratitude. While heavy rain may keep other folks indoors, our landscape crew, as are our other crews, remain hard at work.

On a rainy day in March, Lyn Pedro, Membership and Accommodations Coordinator at the Green College looked out the window and was inspired by what she saw. The landscaping crew in their bright yellow rain gear working away in the rain. Thinking getting to work in the rain was bad enough but seeing our soft landscape crew’s dedication to their work made her feel inspired that we have dedicated people to make campus work no matter the weather. She extends her kudos for showing up and her thanks for the inspiration.

Way to go Shawn Riberdy and crew! Your team makes us all look good.

We are now in the process of finalizing Market Research with vendors to gauge functionality and cost ranges, among other measures. Our goal is to present the results to the Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) on May 9th for their approval to proceed.

IF YOU PARK A UBC VEHICLE IN UEL REGULATED AREAS, YOU WILL BE TOWED. REVIEW MAP AND RULES CAREFULLY

All UBC vehicles, including Building Ops fleet vehicles, must follow the same parking regulations as the public when parking around the University Endowment Lands (UEL). A UBC parking permit is not a valid parking permit for all UEL areas.

This means we must use legal parking spots and pay for parking meters, or vehicles will be towed and vehicle operators will pay to recover their vehicle. The Endowment Land is not part of the UBC umbrella and therefore we must abide by their regulations.

As a result of continued parking violations in these UEL areas, please review this information carefully.  The map below identifies the University Endowment Land (UEL) boundaries.

Please note the following rules that apply when parking in the UEL:

  • If you park at an expired meter, you will be towed;
  • If you park on sidewalks and on the grass boulevard in UEL areas, you will be towed;
  • If you park in a permit only area, you will be towed;
  • If you park in commercial zones without official business, you will be towed;
  • UBC vehicles parking in violation of the parking regulations in the UEL area will be towed; and
  • All expenses incurred as a result of these parking violations will be the responsibility of the vehicle operator.

If we park our fleet vehicles in the UEL regulated areas, we have to pay for parking and follow the parking regulations in the same way that the public has to. There are no exceptions to this requirement.  If you have any questions, please contact Frank Crudo (604-827-2105).
