Brief lull in teaching schedules was our opportunity for proactive and preventive maintenance in Chem B

Chemistry South (B-wing), is primarily teaching labs and so we took advantage of the time between teaching sessions to perform preventive maintenance on all the supply air handlers and exhaust fans for fume hoods. We cleaned heating coils, replaced filters and addressed any other maintenance issues that were hindered until now due to access. We arranged a level 1 fume hood lockout to get in and accomplish a number of items that would otherwise be challenged due to access through the school year. Great forward thinking!

Buchanan A Roof now fixed

Buchanan A roof at the west entry has been leaking for several months, but the weather was preventing us from undertaking the repairs. During an early investigation, a small roof section was cut out and revealed significant water ingress under the insulation and base layer of roofing. Based on this information, the entire roof over the main entry was determined to have failed and required re-roofing.

As soon as exams were complete, MacKirk Roofing began work, and was able to make the area watertight within one day, with installation of the vapour barrier directly to the roof deck. A sloped insulation package was also included to correct the deflection in the deck towards the drains, and to provide improved thermal performance. As of today, May 23, the roof membrane work is complete, with flashings scheduled to be installed in the next week. Jeff Smith is coordinating the various wall tie-in details that will be completed by our in-house trades, to ensure continuity from the roof to wall transition points.

UBC invites you to take the Service Satisfaction Survey

This week, you will receive an invitation email to participate in UBC’s Service Satisfaction Survey.

You’ll receive the email from the address “noreply@surveys.cubane.co” with the title “Invitation to UniForum Service Satisfaction Survey”. This email will include your unique link that cannot be shared with anyone else to access the survey online. The survey opens today, May 23, takes on average 15 minutes to complete, and closes end of day on Tuesday, June 6th.

Please check your UBC email and fill out the survey when convenient, during your breaks or lunch. You can use the computers in the shops, or ask your Shop Head or Manager for help with which computers you can use.

This survey is an important part of the UniForum process; it asks you to rate how well services provided by IT, HR and others, are working for you. It’s your opportunity to help UBC understand how units like Building Operations contribute to our academic mission. More information about UniForum@UBC available here.
