Attendance at Delta Career fair helps build awareness for careers at UBC
UBC participated in the inaugural career fair hosted by the Municipality of Delta. The goal was to reach out to the community and market ourselves as an employer with trade specific opportunities. The Building Ops team met some candidates, secured resumes, and spoke to many apprentices and pre-apprentices. Overall, it was a successful campaign and we hope to again participate next year.
Building Ops joined the fun and games at UBC Sports Day
Sports Day on May 5th was an opportunity for UBC to promote physical and mental wellness while creating stronger team spirit. Building Ops’ team included Sean McGregor, Denise Pearce, Thomas Shields, Denise Tang, Scott Turner and Caroline Soriano (team captain)/
The team completed 6 games across campus including Relay Tic-Tac-Toe (which they won!), Bean Bag Bonanza, Poolside Adventures, Land Curling and Team Tennis. The highlight was the Monster Inflatable where each member scaled the castle, jumped from a second-story level to an air bag, and finished the course through a bouncy slide!
Whether for fun or competitions, perhaps next year you’d like to participate, too! We had so much fun that we might bring some of the activities to our Ice Cream Social. Stay tuned!
It’s bug season—protect yourself from stings and bites
Here are some tips for avoiding insect stings and bites:
- Avoid perfume and sweet-smelling beauty products.
- Check before drinking from cups, bottles or cans. Stinging insects are attracted to sweet drinks.
- Watch out for hives and nests.
- Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts, socks and closed-toe shoes.
- Dress in earth tones or muted colors.
