SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE IN THE 2017 WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE SURVEY

The 2017 Workplace Experience Survey is coming. As discussed in the recent townhalls we took the results from the 2014 survey and built a number of very deliberate programs to help improve our/your workplace experience. These included things like the New Employee Onboarding, the wage reviews for parts of our organization that were struggling to attract key talent and of course the Leadership Development Program that has taken all 120 of our supervisors through training on communications, emotional intelligence, having difficult conversations and supervising in an unionized environment – this training is now open to all staff.

Ensuring that staff can participate in the 2017 survey, and share their thoughts about their workplace experience, is a key priority. A weblink will be mailed to you soon but recognizing that not all of you sit at a computer as part of your daily work we will add an additional 30 minutes to crew talks and custodial zone meetings during the weeks of Nov 14th and 20th. Managers and reps from HR will attend to explain a little bit about the process, and what will happen with the results. This will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Results from the 2014 survey provided us clear direction on changes we should be making. I hope you have been seeing evidence of this work in your workplace and we look forward to your input as part of the 2017 WES.

CARPENTER SHOP’S HALLOWEEN CANDY SMASHER VOTED STAFF FAVORITE

It was a great day having to see the kids of the Cariboo Daycare parade in their costumes. Parents were awesome in their costumes too. There was a pirate lurking in the atrium today, probably looking for his lost ship. This year, the kids didn’t have a clear favorite. They seem to love all the carved pumpkins on display. Who can blame them? They are all fantastic creations.

Staff who came voted for their favorite carved pumpkin and enjoyed a slice of pumpkin pie and a cup of coffee. The Sheet Metal Shop came is a very close second with their version of the Tuxedo Man. It was the Carpenter Shop and their Halloween Candy Smasher is this year’s favorite.

Thank you to all talented pumpkin carvers. Every year, you outdo yourselves. Thank you Hayley MacDonald and Pearle Lundeen for helping make the event a success.

Till next year….Happy Halloween!

DRIVER ONLINE TRAINING STARTS MONDAY NOVEMBER 6TH

Coming next week is our second online driver training session geared to keep our drivers safe.  This session will begin on Monday November 6th and will focus on Vehicle Backing Safety which will cover topics such as:

  • Dangers of backing a motor vehicle
  • Preparing to back up safely
  • Eights steps to safe backing
  • Backing in various situations

Starting on Monday November 6th, our drivers will have a period of 4 weeks to complete the online session in much the same way we walked through the last session earlier this year in the spring.  As with that effort, your managers and heads will assist with the scheduling of the sessions and will offer support where it is required.

As the largest fleet presence on campus, it’s not just our vehicles that are noticed, it is also our driving habits that will gain the attention of the various campus users as well.  In order to ensure we are properly operating our vehicles on campus, we must practice and model safe and efficient driving at every opportunity.

These on line sessions are intended to do just that, which is to offer our current drivers the support they need to learn new techniques or to refresh their knowledge on current techniques for vehicle safety.  Our online training refresher program aims to educate and maintain drivers’ knowledge of safe and efficient techniques on a regular basis and to deliver them quickly through a number of easy online modules.

Look for more information to follow through your managers and heads over the next couple of days in preparation for the second online driver training session.
