Require Labour Support for more than 2 days? Contact Jeff Smith for Scheduling

Any work that needs a labourer for more than 2 days needs to be put onto the main schedule through Jeff Smith. Planned work should always be accompanied with a Service Request to labourers (you can always create a related request if you want to keep the original in your Service Request inbox).

If there is an emergency situation which requires assistance of labourers, please submit an “urgent” Service Request with a follow-up phone call to the Head Labourer about the availability of resources.

Halogen Bulbs Replaced with LEDs in Beaty Biodiversity Museum

The premature failure of halogen bulbs in the Beaty Biodiversity Museum lead to Building Operations replacing the existing halogen lights with a more efficient LED equivalent proactively. Replacing these frequently burnt out lights is problematic to say the least. This is a win/win for both the museum and us. Our electrical technical staff were able to source an LED match to the existing light fixtures and our utility workers replaced the lights in the museum’s off-hours.

O&M Manuals Records Search Improved with Help of Records Department

While working on the EAOS Asset Inventory pilot in FNH and IONA, we learned that the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manuals stored in Records were cumbersome to retrieve. By working with the Records department, the O&M manuals are now more search friendly by categorizing sections more effectively. This reduces the number of pages returned when you do a search. This should reduce the amount of time you spend searching available information.

Thank you for all the feedback from those using the O&M manuals, especially the positive feedback from those using the mechanical sections. The next step in this project will be to arrange records so that each crew can more easily find their respective documentation. If you have any ideas as to how this could look from your crews’ perspective, we’d like to hear from you. Contact to your system owner:

Work will continue on updating the O&M manuals. If you see more that can be done, please let us know.

Sheet Metal Shop Repairs Damaged Street Light Poles

Our Sheet Metal team was put into action a few weeks ago, to make repairs on badly damaged street light poles. One pole was backed over by a dump truck in the IRSDC construction site and two others were damaged in the Acadia Housing Projects, along Peakes Lane.

Hard Landscape delivered the poles with the assistance of the Street Light Crew. Thanks to Jordy Buckles and Thomas Davis, the light poles are repaired and the areas are safe again. And thank you Richard Gee for sharing the story.

Before – note the leaning lamp post

After – nice and straight!

Service Request Tips and Tricks Cheat Sheets Coming to Your Computer Station

The Trades Local Working Committee has shared that you would like a cheat sheet to help you with service requests. Caroline has put together some tips and tricks that you can now refer to when placing a service request.

These laminated sheets will be placed by the shared computers in the zone offices and shops. Having these close by will help you make service requests more easily and frequently.

Remember, you can now call the Service Centre to reassign or add notes to your Service Requests. This helps us track our work and provides our customers with details and status updates on their requests.
