LOWER MALL DES CONSTRUCTION WORK MOVING FURTHER SOUTH

With construction work moving further south along Lower Mall, access from Oberlander Lane to the north side of Lower Mall will remain open. Access from Agronomy Road will be restricted. With the change in traffic pattern, use extreme caution when driving through the USB yard.


SW Marine Drive Closure Effective May 8

Starting May 8 through September 4, 2017, Southwest Marine Drive will be fully closed from Granville Street to Camosun Street (near West 41st Avenue) for the final phase of roadway improvements by the City of Vancouver. Only local traffic will be maintained.

The 49 Metrotown Station bus will be rerouted to accommodate the construction work along Southwest Marine Drive between Granville and Camosun streets. Commuters to UBC should take the 41 Joyce Station/Crown/UBC, 43 Joyce Station/UBC or 480 UBC/Bridgeport Station.


EXAM WENT SMOOTHLY THANKS TO CUSTODIAL AND BOLD SUPPORT

Over the past two weeks staff with the custodial and BOLD teams laid out 169,091 thousand exam booklets, set up 1,350 temporary desks and 1,362 chairs and ensured it all happened without a hitch. It is this extra effort that helps the University run smoothly. Thanks team!!


REMINDER: WHEN YOUR WORK REQUIRES ROAD OR LANE CLOSURES CONTACT KRISTA OR AJAY

We must ensure that our work zones are visible and that vehicles, pedestrians and cyclist are always accommodated in order to keep the public and our employees safe and free from incident. When your work requires road or lane closures on campus, sidewalks included, you must provide for the following:

  • Is your work non-emergency related? Please provide advanced warning and details to Ajay Prasad or Krista Falkner who manage all road closure requests at UBC.
  • Is your work emergency related work where advanced warning is not possible? Please inform Krista and Ajay as soon as possible in case adjustments to other road closures or events are required.

Reminder for all closures, pedestrians and cyclists must also be accommodated in the traffic management planning. If sidewalks are closed, pedestrians need to be detoured at the closest opportunity.


UBC Branded Clothing for Municipal and Trades coming soon!

The new UBC branded clothing that you chose and have been fitted for will arrive during the week of May 22nd.  You can start wearing your new clothing as soon as you receive it!

Electrical shop, your FR clothing that is rented has to be returned to Canadian Linen. Does your clothing have a green dot on the label? If not, the clothing is rented must be returned. Rented clothing must be returned to stores during the week of May 22nd. Ensure that you place all your dirty laundry in the laundry bins by May 15th.

Items returned to stores will be sorted into 3 piles:

  • branded clothing will be sent to a secure uniform recycling facility
  • unbranded clothing will be donated
  • unbranded clothing in good shape will be placed in stores so that there is clothing available for an emergency

Cintas, our new clothing and laundry services provider will also be tagging clothing that is not rented and infrequently washed (like jackets, vests etc) during the week of May 29th.  Note that items put in the wash that have not been tagged will not be returned to us. It is important that any owned clothing that you plan on placing in the laundry infrequently is tagged.

Please see your Head if:

  • your clothing has faded or there are rips and tears
  • if there are issues with your new clothing, such as, incorrect size.

Canadian Linen will be doing their final delivery during the week of May 29th.  Between May 22nd and June 2nd it is important that you keep the clothing from the 2 different vendors separate so that items do not disappear.

Reminder, we will host a number of Pension Education Lunch and Learn sessions between mid-June to early July.  For the class to happen a minimum of 15 participants are required to register. We will schedule sessions for:

  • Day shift at 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
  • Evening shift at 9:00 – 10:00 pm
  • Graveyard shift at 11:00 pm – 12:30 am
