Electrical PM are now completed as part of high voltage shut downs

With a new process for the Electrical PM program, we’re better able to direct our resources and ensure that critical equipment is not missed. This new process will also enable us to:

  • Improve tracking of our effort against the assets
  • Limit wasted effort by keeping better records in a more comprehensive way

This is a big part of being able to efficiently maintain our buildings.

Here is how the program looks:

  • Building specific packages are compiled by going through existing records drawings and data
  • The information that was collected and complied is audited through field inspections
  • Before the electrical system shutdown, the building packages are divided up and handed out to teams of Electricians
  • During the shutdown the Electricians perform the required maintenance and note any issues or areas of concern that arise
  • After the maintenance has been completed, the filled out documentation is submitted, compiled and reviewed.

During a recent electrical shutdown at CIRS, we rolled-out the new program. The high voltage electricians shut down the feed to the CIRS building in order to perform maintenance on the building sub-station. Packages were handed out with checklists for specific secondary electrical equipment. Electricians were performing visual inspections of the equipment as well as cleaning inside breaker panels, MCCs, and transformers. While the panel covers were removed they also exercised breakers and checked torque setting of the conductors.
