T-9 DAYS TO PLANON (AND WORKDAY) GO-LIVE!

We are 9 working days from Planon Go-Live on November 2nd. Planon training continues this week, with training recordings of every session on Canvas. You can link to the course by visiting emms.ubc.ca in the Training tab.

What are Job Aids? Job Aids are step-by -step guides for processes you’ll complete in Planon.  Job aids will be very useful tools for you once we Go-Live. To explore, view, and download job aids, visit the Training Tab at emms.ubc.ca to get the link to Job Aids in Canvas.

Week 4 Instructor-led Training Highlights:  A total of 18 Zoom training sessions were conducted last week. Week 2 of technician training focused on ordering materials against work orders. Training feedback was overall positive, with most technicians feeling comfortable with the session content. A huge thank you to our BOPs and EWS trainers for instructing and supporting over 250 staff members per week in technician training!

UNITED WAY BUILDING OPERATIONS CAMPAIGN: DONATE TO WIN!

It goes without saying that 2020 has been an incredibly challenging year for all of us – our lives have been impacted in ways we could have never predicted. The impact of COVID-19 has been especially challenging for individuals and families who are lonely and isolated and who suddenly find themselves underemployed, socially isolated, and hungry. As members of the UBC community, we can make a difference for our local communities by supporting the United Way.

There are two ways you can donate to win this year!

1) Donate at the link below – either one time donation or payroll deduction – and you will be entered into a draw to win a $250 gift card. The winner will be announced Friday December 4th

*note, a $25 donation is required to receive a tax receipt

https://unitedway.ubc.ca/howtogive/?login

2) The United Way will be hosting a campus wide 50/50 draw that you can purchase tickets for – more details to come once dates have been confirmed

More details about United Way:

  • United Way is a non-profit organization that serves the needs of our local community and ignites the desire in everyone to improve this place we call home.
  • United Way has been supporting vulnerable seniors, families and children for over 90 years across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
  • United Way’s impact is 100% local meaning every donation stays right here in the Lower Mainland and their vision is to create a healthy, caring, and inclusive community
  • UBC is the one of the top contributors to the United Way of the Lower Mainland, having raised over $575,000 last year in support of United Way initiatives.
  • This year President Santa J. Ono is the cabinet co-chair of the United Way of the Lower Mainland campaign
  • Last year, we had over 900 donors to the campaign. This year the UBC United Way campaign goal is to inspire 1000 donors to support this great cause.

USB FLU IMMUNIZATION CLINIC

Due to a nationwide shortage of flu vaccine this year, on-site UBC flu immunization clinics are limited this year. For those individuals who may have missed the opportunity to book an appointment with the Pharmacists Clinic for a flu shot, Safety & Risk Services and Occupational Preventive Health are offering a limited number of flu vaccines on-site at the USB.

An annual flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and others from influenza, especially when combined with physical distancing, handwashing, and staying home when sick. This year, flu shots are particularly important because symptoms of the flu can resemble some symptoms of COVID-19.

As COVID-19 safety protocols are in place, appointments are required. Each appointment will take approximately 20 minutes.

Session 1: Tuesday, November 3      1:00 – 4:00 pm
Session 2: Thursday, November 12  1:00 – 4:00 pm

To book a flu immunization appointment, please contact Linda Roseborough by phone at 604.822.1327 or by email at linda.roseborough@ubc.ca

PREVENTION IS KEY: THANK YOU TO OUR CUSTODIAL TEAM

Throughout the return to campus, our Building Service Workers have been on the front line fighting to make spaces clean for us to work in. Keeping up with refills of the myriad soap dispensers and sanitizer stations; wiping those high-touch surfaces every day, in addition to their regular tasks has been a challenge.

This is especially true as occupancies have been changing meaning schedules are constantly being adjusted. The group has been nimble with their deployment, getting into spaces after they’re vacated and before they get used again. They have also had to take added precautions for special cleaning requests of suspected or unknown contaminations.

The Custodial group has also been coordinating the supply and distribution of the Physical Distancing floor tapes and other markings including the floor decals that our intrepid Sign Shop creates.

So when you see one of your Custodial Team in the hall, please thank that hygiene hero for working to help keep you safe.

REMINDER TO TURN ON VEHICLE LIGHTS WHEN DRIVING THROUGHOUT CAMPUS

For safety and to ensure visibility, a friendly reminder to remember to turn on your vehicle lights now that the mornings (and soon afternoons) are getting darker.
