Building Operations Weekly

STARTING TODAY: UBC REQUIRES NON-MEDICAL MASKS TO BE WORN IN ALL SHARED INDOOR SPACES ON CAMPUS

Effective today, Wednesday, September 16, 2020, UBC students, faculty, staff and visitors are required to wear non-medical masks, when indoors on our campuses.

Your head or supervisor will be providing you with a UBC-branded washable cloth mask for your use.  We understand that one mask is not sufficient, so additional cloth masks will be sourced.  Disposable non-medical masks will also be made available as required in the interim.

Details on specific exceptions to the mask policy are still being prepared by Safety & Risk Services.  This information is targeted to be posted within the next two days at: https://covid19.ubc.ca/.  In the meantime, we will try to respond to questions as best we can.

Facilities staff must continue to wear approved PPE, such as face shields, required to address COVID-19 risk for designated work activities, such as working within 2m of others or travelling in a vehicle with other employees.  Non-medical masks are not considered a substitute for approved PPE in these situations.  Staff may choose to wear a non-medical mask in addition to a face shield if they wish.

Thank you for your observance of the new non-medical mask policy and your continued adherence to public health measures such as staying home if sick, maintaining physical distance wherever possible, and frequent hand hygiene regardless of non-medical mask usage.

ZOOM PRACTICE FOR PLANON TRAINING

Planon training starts next week and continues through October 30th  in preparation for Go-Live on November 2nd. If you’re being trained in Zoom, you will have received invitations for your virtual training sessions. If you’re feeling a bit unsure about how to use Zoom, you can join a Zoom Training Practice Run session to get ready.

  • Monday September 21st from 8 AM – 9 AM
  • Thursday September 24th from 1 PM – 2 PM

You will receive invitations for these sessions if you will be trained in Zoom. These sessions are NOT mandatory. It’s an opportunity for you to practice logging in, and to learn about Zoom’s functionality, and basic Zoom etiquette. There will be no Planon specific training in these sessions. Questions? Contact Deb Capps at deb.capps@ubc.ca

Make sure to add a blanket, warm clothes and boots to your vehicle emergency kit. If you get stuck on the road during winter, these items will make your wait more comfortable. Also, keep your gas tank and windshield washer fluid topped up.
