CANVAS COURSES FOR COMPLETION BY SEPTEMBER 30TH

Online training via Canvas will be an ongoing journey for everyone in Building Operations for mandatory and elective courses.

Our next two goals are to have all staff who perform a supervisory role complete the mandatory Safety Supervision at UBC course, and for all staff to complete the mandatory Privacy & Information Security-Fundamentals Part 1 and Part 2  by September 30, 2020.

If you have not yet taken these courses, please ensure that you do so prior to this deadline.

Safety Supervision at UBC:  Only for staff that have a supervisory component to their role (eg. front-line Custodial staff are exempt and do not need to complete this training).  If you question whether or not you need to complete this training please ask your Manager.

PLANON GOES LIVE NOVEMBER 2ND!

Did you know that on November 2nd, Building Operations, Energy & Water Services and the Locksmiths will start using Planon for maintenance, asset, and inventory management? If your team is using Planon, you’ll learn more about it over the next 4 weeks at your crew talk, including information on:

  • Completing Work Orders and Submitting  Electronic Time Cards
  • Requesting Materials and Reserving Tools & Equipment
  • Managing Assets

If you miss any crew talk during September, be sure to talk to your head to find out what you missed.

Many technicians will be using Planon Mobile Field Services (PMFS) app on a smartphone or tablet. Technician training sessions will begin on October 5th and end on October 30th.

GETTING READY FOR PLANON- PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

Some of our managers have been given viewer access to the preventative maintenance section and have been holding sessions with the coordinators to provide them with an introduction to the systems functionality. As it will take time to input inspections into the system, we will finish out the 2020 preventative maintenance program using our current paper processes and between Nov 2nd and December 31st we will build preventative maintenance schedules and inspection tasks within Planon. Our goal is to issue digital maintenance work orders starting in January of 2021.

KUDOS TO THE UTILITY WORKER AND STREETS & OPERATIONS SUPPORT TEAMS

The Utility Worker team and Streets and Operations Support recently coordinated efforts with great success at AMS NEST and Life Sciences Center.  The work at the NEST involved relamping various fixtures above the climbing wall and dusting at a high level. To complete the work took assembly of 43 vertical feet of scaffolding was required. The work at Life Science involved changing lamps in the main lecture theatres with approximately 18 feet of scaffolding set up by SOS.

Thank you to the crews involved in completing this work, as our clients in the spaces were very appreciative of our efforts!

MEDICATION AND YOUR EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS KIT

Often overlooked, prescription medication is an important part of your emergency preparedness kit. Plan to have at least one week’s worth, and make sure to rotate the medication at least once per year.

For more information about emergency preparedness kits, watch the following video on Government of Canada’s Get Prepared website: https://www.getprepared.gc.ca/cnt/rsrcs/vds/prprng-kt-eng.mp4
