RECOGNIZING THE BUSINESS SERVICES & INFORMATICS AND ASSET REPLACEMENT & IMPROVEMENT TEAM EVENT, THE STATEGIC PLAN IN ACTION!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to and joined us at our Business Services and Informatics and Asset Replacement and Improvement combined Team event last Thursday.

It was so great to get together and achieve one of our Strategic Plan actions linked to Employee Engagement! The event was successful in developing new connections with others in our BOPS family, as we combined our Business Services and Informatics team event (our last event together as a team) along with the Asset Replacement and Improvement team.

A HUGE thank you to Evan, Jenny and Pearle for leading the team through the selection of event activities and organized our afternoon, ensuring the rain stayed away for us to enjoy the Ropes Course and BBQ.

Thanks again for joining us!

KIDS TO WORK DAY IS NOVEMBER 6, 2019

Kids to Work Day is on November 6, 2019. Facilities, Student Housing & Hospital Services and UBC Community Services are encouraging all parents with children in Grade 9 to bring their child to work for the day. Registration is open until October 25, 2019. Submit the registration form and the parent consent form to Caroline MacLeod at caroline.macleod@ubc.ca. For more information call 604-822-5301.

Due to the nature of the work done in the university, and the potential safety hazards involved, a guided day of activities (including lunch) will be planned for students who are unable to spend the day on the job with their parent. Parents are also invited to the lunch. Learn more.

SEPTEMBER 30TH IS ORANGE SHIRT DAY

September 30 is an annual day to recognize and raise awareness about the residential school system in Canada, join together in the spirit of reconciliation, and honour the experiences of Indigenous Peoples. Between the late 1800s and 1996, more than 150,000 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children attended Indian residential schools – Orange Shirt Day commemorates this legacy.

UBC’s Residential School History and Dialogue Centre (RSHDC) is trying to raise awareness about Orange Shirt Day and its meaning, to affect positive change on the UBC Vancouver campus.

Please show your support of Orange Shirt Day by talking about the day, learning about its origins and residential schools, and honour Survivors by wearing orange. Stop by the UBC’s Residential School History and Dialogue Centre on Monday, September 30 between 10 am and 3 pm to browse the exhibition, pick up a button and learn more.

HOLIDAY DART TOURNAMENT: VOLUNTEERS FOR NEW CHAIRPERSON TO RUN THE EVENT NEEDED

For the past several years, Martin Varma has been the lead for our annual holiday dart tournament.

This is a great opportunity to engage any Building Operations staff that are interested in participating in the tournament, while also raising money for a great cause.  All proceeds from the dart tournament have been forwarded to local charities, with the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau being the major benefactor.  Monies raised from the dart tournament, 50-50 raffle and food donations, have helped numerous families over the years.

Martin has made the decision to step aside as chairperson of the tournament and allow another person(s) the opportunity to chair the event if interested .  If you have an interest in leading this fun and meaningful event, please reach out to Martin and he will be happy to provide the information required to make this a continued successful event for years to come.

Special thanks to Martin for your many years of dedicated devotion and leadership to this tournament and your personal commitment to helping out those that are less fortunate in our community!
