UBC Vanpool Pilot Program Anticipated Implementation January 2019

In the July 17, 2018 newsletter, we announced that Campus Planning and Translink are looking into a Vanpool Pilot Program open to all faculty and staff of UBC. Before launching the program, information sessions will be held late this November. Final pricing will be presented along with other details of the program at these sessions. At these information sessions, interested parties will complete application forms and will submit them to Translink. This is necessary to enlist in the program for potential vanpool matching. Translink will carry out the matching task for 10 vanpools to start. Vanpools may increase as the program builds.

Stay tuned for more details.

Watch Out for Road Closures Starting November 19

There is some upcoming work on campus that will have an impact to travel patterns, particularly for pedestrians and deliveries around University Boulevard.

Starting on November 19th, the sidewalk along the north side of University Boulevard will be closed and all pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the south side of the street. Flaggers will be in place during work hours to ensure pedestrians are not walking on the road. This closure is necessary to complete the civil work required for the new development going in.

Starting November 19th, the east half of the autocourt by the Nest and Alumni Centre will be CLOSED and will remain closed until May 2019 when the new parkade is anticipated to open. As a result, traffic entering the remaining portion of the autocourt will be limited to just Alumni Centre deliveries and other essential deliveries. Absolutely no deliveries to the Nest will be accommodated in this autocourt. All Nest deliveries are to use the loading bay provided at the UBC Life Building.

Department of Dentistry Hosts Appreciation Breakfast for Custodial Night Shift Team

Each year, the Department of Dentistry shows their appreciation to the Custodial Night Shift team by inviting them to have breakfast with the Dean in the David Strangway Building. On Wednesday, Nov. 7th, Custodial received many thanks from Dr. Mary MacDougall and Benson Chan for their hard work during the night to keep the 13 year old building looking brand new.

Thank you to Dr. MacDougall for the kind words and recognition, and thank you to Ben for arranging this celebration every year. The Custodial team is proud to be a part of enabling the Dentistry Clinic to be a top of the line facility.
