Building the Smallest Library at UBC

The Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that aims to inspire a love of reading, building community, and spark creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. The organization relies on volunteers, known as stewards, to construct, install, and maintain book exchange boxes.

When the UBC Press wanted to join in on the fun, Building Operations was there to offer assistance. With the help of the Carpenter Shop and the Labour Division, the stewards at UBC Press were able to make a sturdy little library using extra materials from the Ponderosa siding renewal to perfectly match the facade of Ponderosa B, right down to the signage and lighting.

Like other Little Free Libraries, anyone passing by can take a book to read or leave one for someone else to read. As you walk by the UBC Press, check out the Little Free Library, and maybe you’ll find a book by one of our talented UBC authors.
