PAID LEAVE FOR STAFF BETWEEN BOXING DAY & NEW YEAR’S DAY

Certain UBC staff are eligible for paid leave during the university’s seasonal closure — the three normal working days between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. This year’s seasonal closure falls on Dec. 29, 30, and 31, 2020.

This paid leave is addressed in the collective agreements with BCGEU Okanagan, CUPE 2950, CUPE 116 and IUOE 115, and the agreement with AAPS. Although there are no official provisions in place for non-union staff, excluded Management & Professional staff, and service unit directors, Human Resources has provided recommendations regarding the seasonal closure for these staff groups.

REMINDER: DAILY COVID-19 SELF ASSESSMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED & CONFIRMED WITH YOUR SUPERVISOR PRIOR TO WORKING ON CAMPUS

As part of the latest Public Health requirements, Faculty, staff and contractors who are on campus are now required to directly confirm to a supervisor (or designate) that they have completed a daily self-assessment for symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival at their workplace.

Please use the BC self-assessment tool at https://bc.thrive.health/ to complete your self- assessment prior to coming to work on campus. To make the daily assessment more convenient, you can download the BC COVID-19 app to your mobile device.

A self-assessment verification sign-off will be required on a daily basis for each staff member working on campus. Managers will provide details on the process for each crew or work area.

For more information on daily self-assessment, visit SRS’s FAQ page:

DH COPP BUILDING – DEMOLITION UNDERWAY

After almost 60 years of service, the DH Copp Building is handed over to UBC Properties Trust on Monday December 7 and behind construction fencing. This is the first step to the demolition of  the building which take place in Spring 2021. The demolition will remove an aging seismically deficient facility to make way for the development of the planned new School of Biomedical Engineering Building

Also known as Medical Block A, DH Copp Building was surrounded by its Medical Sciences Block siblings — Medical Sciences Block B (Friedman Building) and Medical Science Block C that were built at the same time.

Thanks to you all that helped keep DH Copp going over the years and those that helped save precious parts from it in its last days.

SR OR STANDARD SUB-WORK ORDER REQUIRED FOR ALL JOBS

In the past, crews would stop by shops asking for small jobs (eg. 20 minutes to do some quick work on a tool or similar) to be completed without work orders. The crew doing the work would simply use the standing building number to charge their time to. Because core standing building numbers no longer exist, crews need a specific Work Order number to charge to.

Please note that going forward, any crew requesting work of another crew must have submitted an SR or standard sub Work Order prior to stopping by the shop and asking for the work to physically be completed. If your shop already has a work order for this job, you should set up a standard sub work order for the crew you’re requesting work from. If you don’t have a work order assigned to you, a service request should be set up. You can contact the Service Centre to help with both a standard sub and a service request.

BIO-SCIENCES NORTH & EAST WING (ULTL)

After a considerable delay, Building Operations has now agreed to have the Bio-Sciences North & East Wing (ULTL) project handed over to them to maintain, and respond to service requests. There are numerous deficiencies still associated with this project  and we are actively working with Project Services. This project is being recommissioned, so the deficiency list is subject to change.

We are still waiting on the list of extended warranties (the one-year warranty expired on September 13, 2020) and service contracts associated with this project  this information will be forwarded when we have it in hand.

If you receive a service request for this building and are uncertain whether it is something a contractor is currently working on, please contact Sean McGregor directly for clarification.

We received a thank you from UBC Hospital to the Municipal Services’ Streets & Operations Support (SOS) team for spreading some holiday cheer!
