PLANON UPDATE: GETTING DATA READY FOR PLANON

EMMS is working with stakeholders to assess UBC’s existing and potential data sources which will be loaded into Planon. Today, UBC’s maintenance, inventory and assets (building and grounds) data is stored in PeopleSoft, Archibus (space), ArcGIS (location), Laserfiche (OEM manuals), VFA (architectural), Access (hazard registry and utility meters), BuiltSpace and other spreadsheets managed by crews.

There are two streams of work underway:

  1. The EMMS team is leading the standardization of data based on industry classifications such as Uniformat, creation of data hierarchies, data mapping, clean-up and ultimately migration into Planon.
  2. David Pepin is focused on the identification and collection of new asset data to support maintenance-related activities.

IMAGINE 2019 IS ON SEPTEMBER 3RD

On Tuesday, September 3, over 10,000 new-to-UBC students (first year, transfer, and exchange students) will participate in Imagine UBC, our culminating orientations event, and a welcome back for returning students.

On the first day of classes, UBC campus is transformed and the entire UBC community comes together to welcome our new students to their new academic community and celebrate the start of the school year.

For most students, Imagine UBC replaces the first day of classes. Students will have the chance to meet some great people including their Dean, some of their future professors, and other students. Imagine provides our new students the opportunity to learn about their new academic environment as well as the specific expectations of their Faculty.

A reminder that the Main Event will be taking place between 1:00 p.m. to 3:30pm along Main Mall, from Agronomy Road to Agricultural road.  Please be mindful of potential road closures and the additional activities for students throughout campus throughout early September.

THEY’RE BACK! KEEPS EYES OUT FOR INCREASED PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLING TRAFFIC ON CAMPUS

As the start of the school year approaches, it is important that we consider the increased traffic and pedestrian movement on campus. Consider the following when moving through the campus to do our daily work:

  1. Only go into the public realm as required and avoid movement during class change times.
  2. When moving through the public realm make sure you travel at a reduced and safe speed which is appropriate for the pedestrian and cyclist movements in the area.
  3. Ensure you raise all bollards that are dropped to access the public realm area directly after you enter so as to maintain the safety of the people within the area by avoiding unauthorised access to the public realm.

As we begin to ramp up for the new school year we need to be diligent at making sure all employees and campus users are safe and incident free. We can do this by following the above list and maintaining focus and eliminating distractions as we move through the campus with Building Ops vehicles and equipment.

Quick Updates

AS SCHOOL STARTS, GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO ARRIVE TO WORK

A reminder that as the school year begins again, thousands of students will be commuting to UBC campus.

Whether you drive to campus or take transit, plan extra time for your commute to ensure you arrive to work on time. During your work hours on campus, be aware of long line-ups for coffee and food services and plan accordingly as your wait time in line-ups could take up your entire 15 minute coffee break.

WEEKLY EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TIP: KEEP CASH ON HAND – MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SMALL BILLS IN YOUR EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS KIT.
