Vanpool Pilot Program Information & Sign-Up Sessions December 5 and 6

UBC, Translink and Modo are providing information regarding the Vanpool Pilot Program. Vanpooling is a great opportunity to reduce the cost to travel to work each day. It is also an opportunity to meet our sustainability goals by reducing our carbon footprint. This program is open to all staff.

When:  December 5 and 6 (Wednesday and Thursday)

Where: Policy Labs A&B at Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS, 2260 West Mall)

Time:     11:30 am – 12:00 pm

 

RMS and Finance Move To a New Location

After more than twenty years of residence on the 2nd floor of the University Services Building, Building Ops Finance has moved to room 0078. On November 27, UBC Facilities hosted the official opening of the new Risk Management Services and Finance Offices. With the coordination of Peter Lincoln, the renovation was completed in a timely manner. Thank you to all who helped make the move happen.

Go visit USB Room 0078 and check out the new offices.

 

Silent Auction Starts December 10th

The Architectural Business unit within Building Operations will be holding their 6th Annual Silent Auction. Items are open for bidding in the afternoon of December 10. Bidding ends on December 14 at noon. Items will be posted in the USB south foyer between the Sign Shop and Human Resources. Thanks for your support and participation. All proceeds benefit the United Way.

 

2019 Safety Training Brochure Now Available

Who can do the most to promote safety in the workplace? You! To ensure safety in the workplace, keeping up-to-date with your core safety and equipment training is critical to ensure we get the job done. The 2019 Safety Training brochure has been released. Contact Caroline Soriano to register and/or to know the status of your training certificates.

 

Bookstore Staff Appreciation Sale December 5th

Do Not Park at the USB Loading Dock

Reminder to all staff, do not park in the dock leveler spots at the USB loading dock/receiving area. These spots MUST always remain available for deliveries.

 

Watch Out for Road Closures during the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final

From December 6 – 9, the world’s best figure skaters will compete in The ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. This is the concluding event of the ISU Grand Prix Circuit which saw previous competitions hosted in United States, Russia, France, China and Japan.

The Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre’s top priority is to provide a safe and world class experience for all fans. Road closures will take place from approximately 30 minutes before the event ends until approximately 1 hour after the event is over, based on this time table.

Pedestrian fencing will be erected from Osborne Gym breezeway/Osborne lot across Thunderbird Blvd to Thunderbird Parkade entrance. This is to prevent pedestrians from walking into traffic exiting the parkade. Osborne lot will not be available from December 6th to December 9th.

Road/Lane closures

  • North and South turn bays on Wesbrook Mall at Thunderbird Blvd.
  • Thunderbird Blvd from Wesbrook Mall to Thunderbird Parkade entrance.
  • Thunderbird Blvd from East Mall to Eagles Dr.
  • East Mall from Thunderbird Blvd to Agronomy Rd.
  • North bound East Mall closed between 16th Av and Thunderbird Blvd.

2019 Economic Stability Dividend Coming in 2019

The BC Government has announced the 2019 Economic Stability Dividend. This will result in an ongoing 0.75% wage increase for UBC staff who are members of unions/associations that have ratified agreements with the university under the Economic Stability Mandate of 2014-2019. The increase also applies to Research Associates, Non-union Technicians and Research Assistants, Farm Workers, and Executive Administrative staff. This is the final Economic Stability Dividend under the 2014-2019 mandate.

The implementation will take effect in 2019:

  • February 1: CUPE 116, CUPE 2950, IUOE 115 (formerly IUOE 882)
  • March 1: BCGEU Childcare
  • May 1: AAPS, BCGEU Okanagan, Executive Administrative staff, Farm Workers, Non-union Technicians and Research Assistants, Research Associates
  • July 1: CUPE 2278
  • November 1: CUPE 116 (Aquatic Centre)

The UBC Budget Office will be communicating with Faculties and VP portfolios regarding funding details for this increase.
